Margi - My Introduction

Updated: Apr 8, 2022

Hi, my very first post so a little about me and TMR.

I have always been actively involved in sport mainly to keep me busy and out of everyone’s hair! From a young age I played netball, did athletics, played touch football, danced and did Judo.

Halfway through high school I began to take Judo much more seriously, achieving my black belt and travelling the world to compete. Through the crazy hard training and competition, I really put my body through its paces and caused a lot of damage (Thankfully I had a supportive mum to foot the bills). I also pushed my body to the limit and will have a follow up post about the female athlete triad as well as extreme dieting, a big no no!!

Through all of this I really developed a love of rehab, much coming from lived experience and necessity. I had been studying exercise physiology and really got into it after some particularly nasty shoulder issues. Fast Forward a few years later, a knee injury ended my Olympic dream, and Judo came to a halt. A new chapter was about to start.

I always say to people if you had asked me where I would end up with my degree, a few years ago I would have looked at you sideways. But since I started working as an exercise physiologist most of my work has been in Chronic population, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

So, what is chronic population you might ask? Its people that have reoccurring issues or medical conditions for long periods of time (over 6 months by definition). It can include but not restricted to chronic back pain, heart disease and osteoporosis (keep your eyes peeled for the next post about what an exercise physiologist is, does and how we can help).

The satisfaction I get from helping people is incredible and knowing that you make someone else’s life that little bit better, is so unbelievably rewarding. I have worked in a combination of settings over the years. Starting out in a private practise with dietitians and physio’s, I moved into a gym-based setting but still working with higher risk chronic populations. I have taught Pilates (and yes another post about Pilates will come) over the last 3 years in physiotherapy practises and finally decided to make the move to my own show.

So why the name TMR? . . . I really wanted a name that conveyed exactly what I have always wanted in my business. Treating the patients right, having your patients full trust and making sure that you do right by them. It might sound a little corny but its true, nothing beats that moment when you are finally able to wins someone’s trust and they believe in you and get the results that they want. I want people that come and see me to feel and know that I have their best interest at heart and that the person isn’t just another booking.

Why I love My Clients

Through my work I have been privileged to meet some of the most amazing people who have really pushed their bodies to the limits. So being able to help people has been amazing.

The satisfaction you get from changing someone’s life is incomparable.

I will be working in conjunction with other EPs, physiotherapists and medical practitioners, running our own Allied Health services as a mobile EP. Working across all North Brisbane suburbs with a gym and office base on the Redcliffe Peninsula. It's so rewarding to be able to continue to do what I love for so many years.
